I just received my new 30D today, first thing I noticed was it was quieter then my 20D, very cool. Anyway I now have to decide which body to keep as a back-up. I have a 20D and 10D, other then the few dollars extra I wil make selling the 20D on the used market I am wondering about practicality here. Both have aprox the same clicks and both are like new. My second body might be used with an extra lens in the field but mostly just in case I take an extra shooter with me or have a failure with the 30D.
Thanks all!

We have the 30, 20 and 10. Depends on what you shoot as to what camera to keep. I'd sell our 10D but will eventually convert it to IR. Our 20D is the backup/second camera for our 30D and 1DMKII. We shoot motorsports and the 10D just does not fit the bill anymore for that genre.

Why would you not want to keep the 20D instead of the 10D?

Anyway I now have to decide which body to keep as a back-up. I have a 20D and 10D, ...

I'd keep the 20D as a back-up, only because it handles noise at higher ISO's (like 800 & up) better than the 10D ....

When I had my 10D, I found the cutoff ISO (as far as noise) to be 800 .... when you went to 1600 it got really noisy. The 20d handles ISO 1600 much better ....

Thanks guys, I think I will keep my 20D. I just hated to see such a fine camera go unused for the most part.

4 camera bodies! interesting.
and it seems that you have 3 versions of the 50mm too. even more interesting. cause i also have all 3 but i've been deciding to sell off the f/1.8 II. i was just wondering why have you kept all 3 of them?

oh, and definitely keep the 20D.

I sometimes do a little informal instruction and my students usually show up w POS cameras. I will end up keeping 3 bodies in the end. Also I am always looking for deals on the forums and bay that are just too good to pass up, sort of like my compulsion to buy "Catcher in the Rye" every time I see it;) I also like to use 50mm for introductory work. I have lots of film stuff and try to get newcomers up to speed with both digital and film.
