I have been using the selftimer quite alot while shooting nightshoots and most of the time i have been anoyed with the fact that the timer takes 10 seconds to deploy.
When using the timer as ment to in self portraits its no problem but when using it as a substitute for a remote is quite anoying.

After reading alot on this board i figured i would give mirror lock up a try to see if there where any improvements in my images, so off i went and set the camera up on my tripod, and set the drivemode to timer..

Now the timer only takes about one second to deploy when used in conjunction with the mirror lock up, this is not a feature i noticed while reading the manual for the camera.
Im not saying its not in the manual, im just saying it wasent something i noticed while reading it ;)

So timer and mirror lock up equals a one second or so timer instead of the usual 10 seconds.

And yes, a remote is on my shoppinglist just after i get myself a good CF tripod and a good ballhead to go with it :)

it's not a hidden feature, it's stated in the manual too (check the specifications). unfortunately, you're a slow counter, while in mirror lockup mode, the timer is set to 2s instead of the default 10s.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Very interesting. Gotta try it out myself.

While we're on remotes, they could do with an update. I want one that is coiled just like the old phone handsets. The straight one dangles around and gets caught up in stuff. Is it so hard to make a remote with a coiled cords FGS?

In my manual i cant find anything under specifications thats says anything but 10 seconds delay.

After reading a bit more under the use of mirror lockup it does say 2 seconds when in use with the timer, Good thing i dident say it wasent documented :)

For my old camera i used a bit of velcro to attach the remote to the tripod, it was enough to make the remote a bit more secure and not get caught up on stuff.

Ooh no!!! Please no coiled cords anymore. It's a pain. They allways turn the
wrong way and are allways coiled and knotted into themself ... ... ;)

Good luck.

Great "find" on the 2sec timer. I just tried it on mine and it works as well. Wish I would have read up on this before. Thanks :)

We had it over a year ago with the 350D
Again, it was in the manual but a lot of people over looked it.
