Taking self portraits is so hard...this picture is sooo soft and the lighting is bad....I debated posting it here because IMHO its not good work BUT decided what the heck and am posting it anyway. ;)

It's not as soft as it looks. Apply a little USM and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. You'd probably be more pleased with the sharpness of your shots if you cranked the ISO a bit to increase your shutter speed. I think 1/15 is a little slow for portraits.

I'll play a bit more...I may just re-do it..I am not very pleased with the lighting either.

That rule of thumb doesn't apply to tripod work, which I assume this shot was. 1/15 is still pretty slow for shooting people even with a tripod, but you'll get some keepers.

I'm really not seeing motion blur in this shot, though. Most likely just a bit OOF. Focusing is really hard when you're doing self-portraits.
