Does anyone think Canon will compete with Sigma 120-300?

Since I have sent my Sig 120-300mm f/2.8 in for focus calibration I have a little time on my hands:( .

Just wondering if anyone thinks Canon will or should compete in this zoom range?

I love the qualities of the Sigma (sharp as he## where it focuses!), it's just hitting focus too far back, so I had to send it in for warranty work. I wish that Canon would have a (sub - $2500) option in their line-up as well. Anyone feel the same?

They've had a long time since tha Sigma 120-300 came out to cover something like that, but doesn't seem like they want to make one. I guess for fast supertele's, they prefer primes with IS.

My dream Canon glass would be a 70-300 2.8L Been told tho' its never going to happen :(

Tried the Sigma but didnt like it. Zoom ring in the "wrong" place and generally just found it too much hard work compared to the Canon 70-200 2.8L.

They won't do it. When Sigma launched the 120-300mm f/2.8 it more or less killed off the sales of their 300mm f/2.8 EX prime completely. I can't see Canon wanting to do the same damage to their 300mm f/4 and 300mm f/2.8 sales.

true, canon is a very good marketing company. which only means that it hurts us the worst.

nikon on the other hand is a very bad marketer.
