A mixed emotions kind of day today at the beach. I had hoped for high tide, which I got, but I didn't expect the ocean to be as rough as it was.
My son and I walked the beach, camera, tripod, release and spirit level in hand/pocket, to the coquina stones and the salt spray was really bad. So bad that I knew I wasn't going to subject my gear to set-ups with the tripod, especially since I finally got my long desired Sigma 10-20mm lens yesterday. Well, as it turned out, it wouldn't have mattered (see third photo
).
But, every cloud has a silver lining and I wouldn't trade the 4 1/2 hours with Alex for anything and no frustration could damper my joy.
This is one of the first shots I took with the new lens. I didn't handle the highlights in the water well at all but I have a CPL coming and hope that it will help (will it?).

Today was the first day I've shot exclusively in RAW which was helpful with this next one. I under/over exposed the same RAW image and merged them in PSE4.0. I think this shot has more potential though than what I'm able to bring out of it with my processing skills (or lack thereof).

Finally, this is what you're NOT supposed to do with your new lens. My first words were 'That wasn't funny' since my son was nearby and he's a laugher at the worst times, ah, just like his dad. He later said, "What are you worried about, you blocked most of the water with your face!".

I did dry everything off immediately afterwards. I am a bit concerned about the salt film so, if anyone has suggestions on cleaning it all better, I'd love to hear them. Hopefully, I haven't damaged anything. I can use an excuse to get a 30D but, the lens, I think I'd cry if I lost her.
As always, C&C is welcome and appreciated.
