A mixed emotions kind of day today at the beach. I had hoped for high tide, which I got, but I didn't expect the ocean to be as rough as it was.

My son and I walked the beach, camera, tripod, release and spirit level in hand/pocket, to the coquina stones and the salt spray was really bad. So bad that I knew I wasn't going to subject my gear to set-ups with the tripod, especially since I finally got my long desired Sigma 10-20mm lens yesterday. Well, as it turned out, it wouldn't have mattered (see third photo  ).

But, every cloud has a silver lining and I wouldn't trade the 4 1/2 hours with Alex for anything and no frustration could damper my joy. :D

This is one of the first shots I took with the new lens. I didn't handle the highlights in the water well at all but I have a CPL coming and hope that it will help (will it?).

Today was the first day I've shot exclusively in RAW which was helpful with this next one. I under/over exposed the same RAW image and merged them in PSE4.0. I think this shot has more potential though than what I'm able to bring out of it with my processing skills (or lack thereof).

Finally, this is what you're NOT supposed to do with your new lens. My first words were 'That wasn't funny' since my son was nearby and he's a laugher at the worst times, ah, just like his dad. He later said, "What are you worried about, you blocked most of the water with your face!".

I did dry everything off immediately afterwards. I am a bit concerned about the salt film so, if anyone has suggestions on cleaning it all better, I'd love to hear them. Hopefully, I haven't damaged anything. I can use an excuse to get a 30D but, the lens, I think I'd cry if I lost her. ;)

As always, C&C is welcome and appreciated.

Use a good strength Alcohol to clean it _ now for the photos. The first one looks nice but the second is about your best work yet, lovely evening colors really does it just. Not to sure on the third one.

Thank you very much Toney, I appreciate that. The third one, not my favorite either. I better go get the alcohol and get at it. :D

Man, you take all the fun out of it.

Last one here. Three exposures of the same RAW image.

Although the 2nd one is a very good capture,i still prefer #1,better executed as a whole, even not on a tripod to blur the water a wee touch.
You`re getting there Rob.;)

Dimitri, I appreciate that buddy. The water blur you mention is what made me feel that that one might warrant posting. I thought it made a pretty good lead in.

Well, maybe one of these days I'll be at the right place at the right time and be able to use all of this "stuff" to capture something special. I got my CPL in the mail today and took some practice snaps. Wow, what a difference that's going to make. :D

Thank you again for the kind words. Really encouraging.

Flagler Beach is basically between Saint Augustine and Daytona Beach, Florida. I access this part of it via Washington Oaks Gardens State Park which has great scenery on both sides of A1A.

Thank you.

Really enjoy the FG in #1,2,4 Robert. That Sigma is sure giving you some nice looking shots, I just bought one yesterday and can't wait to get out and give it a try.

The first one - stunning, the second one - great, and the third one - I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you, I'd probably be hysterical if it happened to me! :D

I just about cried Elisabeth. I had wanted something really wide for a long time but misinterpreted B&H's warning on this lens (APS-C sensor only), thinking it wouldn't work on my 10D. To finally get it then nearly "float check" it the next day?  I cleaned everything really good and, so far, so good.
Thank you for the encouraging words on the first two.

Another vote for the first shot. Great work, I love the lighting and the wide angle.

I love my Sigma as well!

Nice Robert. #1 is my favourite for the composition, colours, and light.
