Portrait of a female Black-necked Stork (Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus), taken whilst in Kakadu National Park, Australia. The female storks have a yellow iris and the males black. We were extremely lucky to view this beautiful bird at close range and because I had my 300 f/4 lens on it was always going to be a head shot only! It's a shame the background is a bit of a mess but there was not much I could do about that! The light at the time was just perfect for showing off her wonderful colouring. I guess the person responsible for the 'black-necked' bit of the name was due for an eye test
I much prefer the previous name of Jabiru.
