Hi,

I had been waiting for my 85mm f/1.8 USM to arrive by UPS and noticed it was late. I checked tracking on it and saw that it was delivered two days ago. I looked all over the house in case the kids or wife had it, but not. Then I asked the neighbors if they signed for it, but no.

Then I walked out in my backyard and saw the box by the back door, good!

But, it had rained and the box was very soggy. I removed the lens from all the packaging and now have it setting inside the house to let it acclimate to room temp and dry out any unseen moisture.

I'm not angry with the UPS guy because he really thought he was doing me a favor. Now I just have to check the back door more often :)

I would now contact the company you bought it from and say i had not recieved it.

because the ups guy left it without getting a signature they have no proof you actually got it so you could get another or credit.

Of course you do need a bit of a mean streak to do that:evil:

I hate when delivery companies leave expensive stuff out side it could have been stolen

well was the box inside and the lens actually wet..if not then I say there shouldnt be any problems.
Its not UPS fault..they left it at your door. When i am expecting a package and its not at the front I check everywhere it could be..side back and all

I disagree with most of the above. The package should not have been left exposed w/o some type of instruction. There should have been a note stating be back next day or a note stating that package left at back door. Not everyone tracks packages like buyers of new camera equipment. I bet it UPS is notified, they will agree!! The package or note should be left at a reasonably standard location. ( My UPS guy will leave package in garage through side door if no signature needed). I would work to get your lens replaced by company or UPS. I assume all your paperwork got wet as well. Try to resell that lens!!"I'm sorry, the paper work got wet when they delivered the lens!!!!) I really feel UPS is responsible and would notify them.

UPS must have changed their policies ecause they never used to leave it without a signature. It used to drive me nuts because no one was ever home and I would have to wait until they actaully attempted the delivery before I could schedule a pickup at their center. I even tried request the package be left without signature butthey stated they couldn't do it.
The last few times they've left it tho.

Where did you order it from? Im guessing that the company didnt put insurance on the package because I think UPS is required to get it signed when insured.

I had a computer shipped to my mom's house some years back. They left it by the front door. When mom came home, no computer. After several weeks of fighting UPS, they paid me what I insured the package for. I believe there is an option to require a signature on delivery. Check that option out !

You'd need more than a mean streak, you'd need to be a thief. The fact that you don't like the way they leave your packages doesn't give you a license to steal.

The recipient is covered for the lens. Just call the company and tell them what happened. UPS will pickup your wet lens and ship it back - the shipper will then send you a new one.

Its up to the driver's discretion whether to leave a package w/o a sig. The safety of the neighborhood, , the availability of a suitable place to leave it, etc play in the decision.

i feel the same way but i figure he was joking.

and not all packages require signatures. i've had some pretty expensive stuff dropped off without signature.

I'm the OP and want everyone to know that the USP man has been delivering many items over the years to my home and he pretty much knows that I get home from work after 2:30pm. He'll wave at me when we pass on the road and then I'll find my parcel by my front door.

The lens looks and operates just fine. It is true that there should be a "signature required" notation on the delivery but there was not. That is the shipper's option. I don't fault that, because I just can't stand missing a delivery.

I put a big plastic storage box out back so he can put the next item in it and it will be sheltered.

id complain to ups.

there should have been a note posted through the front to let you know.

It could have been stolen easy if it had been there for a few days.

Heh, one time I had about $3000 of computer stuff shipped to my house. The delivery status was "delivered" but no one had signed for it. Couldn't for the life of me figure out where it was. Checked the site again and there was a note in the delivery status that said BBQ. Went into my back yard opened my bbq and there my stuff was. :D Haha, good thing I didn't light it that night without first opening the lid.
