I haven't seen the lens properties for this (twoeaglesmarcus) pictorial of the chick in red vinyl. I don't see the wide angle perspective in it at all...

The corners are crap on the wide apertures, but a nice stopped down lens. Relatively cheap, too. Mac users swear by their computers. PC users swear at theirs.

None of the crappy corners I sometimes encounter. Might be because it was shot with a 1.6 crop camera.... Might be I need to send the Sigma to Sigma. RonaldS.Jr. Prodigal "Brick" Layer More info | Oct 06, 2006 11:09 | #23 Kinda late for this, but I see you're using a 30D. Have you thought about getting wider, as in the Sigma 12-24? 20mm is wide, but not nearly as wide as it is on FF. I mean 17mm on a crop isn't even as wide as 24 on FF. Just some thoughts. I'd really like to move to one fairly fast prime at that range as I rarely shoot wider than 24 with the 5D anyway. It's a shame to have all that money tied up in a zoom that doesn't get used all that much. Tom

It's a shame to have all that money tied up in a zoom that doesn't get used all that much. Pondria on Fred Miranda's forum has the 20/1.8 Sigma and uses it on his 1Ds II with good results. I've noted that distortion is low on this particular Sigma. Corner performance still requires stopping down a good bit, but I haven't found an ultra-wide, prime or zoom, that didn't require stopping down to get the corners sharp. That fact is not as bad as it might sound as the types of situations where sharp corners might be desired are likely to also be situations where stopping down might be desired (landscapes, interiors, etc.). This, middle of the pack, wide angle lens will cover the areas that I get comfortable results in...Thereafter, I might go to a second lens or a back up camera with a second lens.. John Stoy

Yes, essentially the fast lenses are the ones of choice here. John Stoy
