Since I'm happy with sigma and based on the lenses I have below (see signature).

I'm thinking my next glass will be a combo (to get a 400 out of the mix)

SIGMA 70-200MM F2.8 APO EX DG CANON and SIGMA 2X EX DG APO TELE CANON.

I can get both together brand new for about 1250 Canadian.

What do you guys think? am I going in the right directions to covering my *important * basics

Looking at your wish list , you prefer the tokina 12-24 over the sigma 10-22? I'm thinking the 10-22 will be in my future.

I would pass on the 2x and get the 1.4x. Otherwise, you're looking good.

sigma doesnt have a 10-22 they have a 10-20 and its a DC lens
I like the tokina one and also its a constant f4

yes your right 10-20 sorry my mistake.
Hmm you make a good point runner but maybe it's my enexperience, I mean can a constant f4 not be bad in certain situations where you may need/want a 5/6?

well then u just turn the wheel in AV or M mode and set it to 5.6
that f4 doesnt mean thats its only apature
its f4-22
constant f4 means the apature doesnt change when u zoom like the others..they would be 4 on the wide end and minimum of 5.6 on the tele end

why the 1.4? is there a particular reason to avoid the 2?

2x will degrade image quality alot more then a 1.4 will and 2x will slow down the focus more

It wouldn't hurt the lens at all tho right? I mean I can get both a 1.4 and 2 if I wanted to and switch in different situations?
