Need to do more available light, Pham-that shot is really nice.

You or Pham? Pham has some natty shots that are spectacular. He knows which ones i get wet over. (the engagement ones in the forest) I personally think that is some of Pham's better work. I'm certain he has posted them in here, but I didn't have this lens when we would of so i'm not sure.

I don't own a flash, so all my shots are available light :P...maybe I should get one, though, and save some money on lenses.

It's true.
Light will make or break a photo, period. However if you see need for the glass then that's what you need. Everyone needs are base on their style and what they shoot. ;)

Although when you first buy that off camera light .... be careful it's more addicting then buying lenses and they are cheaper!

The 85IIL does well for landscapes too. It's very very sharp and colourfull, with great contrast:

Love the last one. Awesome mood and composition.

I hate to be a pest here guys, but is there any way someone could demonstrate the difference with this lens on a crop vs ff? I'm trying to decide between a 5d classic and a 50d for my upgrade. The 85L is just bugging me to get FF but my sports photos beg to differ :/ Not enough money as is, and Xti is being sold, so I won't have that as a backup.

are you needing this lens on a FF body? is that what i understand you wanting>? if so..

all my shots in this thread are on FF body..

EDIT.. never mind my speed reading skills.. i understand..

you want a shot with a crop.. then one on FF body..

same lighting and subject matter in the same environment..

Went down to the NW Garden Show before the weekend masses and was able to capture some nice shots amongst the flora. A group of florists were doing arrangements out front and this one with the twisting branches, bottles of wine and sunflowers really caught my eye.

If you are serious about sports shooting I'd say the 7D has been getting a very good rep for its focus capabilities, as in second only to the 1 series.
I'd hope that the 50D is not slouch in that regards, but...

But the 85L may find itself not as useful as it would on a ff camera, although that's really up to you.
