I've had this lens for a while now and I find it's great when shooting mid body to full body. Headshots need something longer like 120mm+

Anybody feel the same?

I think it's premium for shooting head and shoulder shots, for closer the 135L seems to be the favorite. 'Course you can revert to tubes:)!

You know, you're right on that. I just looked at a few of my faves and they are head and shoulder shots.

@ Skill
@ Lax
Great shots

here is a full body shot i like with this lens...

from yesterdays wedding..

probably my favorite wedding photo portrait for a bride in recent memory..

550ex in a soft box (westcott 28 inch) triggered by Flex Flex Pocket wizard in ettl mode..

with the speed of weddings i just turn the settings of my lighting in ettl mode, ask one of the bride maid to help with the light stand, and try to trust the canon ettl lighting system to work right.. it is hit and miss.. glad this one was a hit..

what i do is:

turn my camera to manual mode..
find the shutter speeds and Fstop to get the back ground lighting i want..
the just put the light stand where i think it should be for the bride..

then the flex flex combo in ettl mode active.. does the rest..

i might try to tone this photo differently for me.. but for the bride, this is how she sees the church lighting..

Looking forward for your picture to be posted here...Thanks again!

Finally had a chance to shoot a couple of other subjects. Here's our daughter, with glare off the pool at her house causing her to squint, even though her face is in the shade. All the following is with the 7D and 85mm 1.2 L II, ISO 200 1/500s @ f4.5, handheld.

First the full APS-C frame, simply converted, then a sharpened crop for esthetics. The next message will have the 100 percent versions

Now the 100 percent crops. First the non USM, then the USM version.

Now for two subjects a little harder to define and focus on. just the pix--each cropped to please my eye and edited for contrast, color and USM.

Wood: ISO 200, 1/500s @ f8.

Water: ISO 200, 1/500s @ f9.5

You should see these as prints on 22" paper.

some snow play..

Let it snow!

actually it was Leah's sister that was making the snow falling for us but that didn't work out so well. .but then all the sudden the wind kicked up and the snow from the trees came down.. so it was perfect..

i work with my seniors on many mini shoots.. this was her winter session..

i always say to them it will only take about 10 mins to do the shots.. but it turns out to be 30 mins or more, because i continue to shoot.

i need to stop having so much fun and respect others time.. lol..

we used a reflector on this shot..
