RARELY do I ever loose a shot because of slow AF, and probably I couldn't have made the shot with any lens. The only lens I've owned close to as slow is the Sigma 150 macro, because it had such a long AF throw and didn't have the speediest AF. But honestly, I think these two lenses (85L and sigma 150 macro) are slow for good reason: 1. they are more concerned with accuracy than speed 2. they both have very long focus throws (Sigma because of the macro range and accuracy, canon for accuracy). 1Ds3--T2i--24-105L--24LTSEv1--24L--Sigma 50/1.4--50/1.8--85Lv2--70-200f4LIS--Sigma 150-500
