ok ok
so just i will keep my 500 for my wildlife/birding shots, and 400 for sports, too bad if one lens can do both but no problem, it is life.
Thank you very much.

if only we were all so lucky :D. that would certianly be a beautiful combo.

I saw your gearlist and was shocked. It was just meant as a little humorous remark, nothing more. :p

With a more serious tongue, may I ask what kind of nature you intend to capture with the 500mm? When I hike my camping gear weights about 20 kg if i pack light, and then you'll have to add the photography equipment afterwards. Hauling a lens like the 500mm f/4 IS seems impossible to me other than for roadside shooting.

Cheers..

I use my 500/4 mainly for birds but also for motorsports where you don't want to or are not allowed to stand too close. I've also tried it for wakeboarding from the shore. 500mm is too long for my other sports shooting, I also have the 300/2.8 which is a better choice for indoors and smaller venues.

Here's some 500/4 samples (w. 1.4x for the last two):

I shoot with both my 500f4 and 400 2.8 for football games depending if it's a day game or the stadium i'm shooting in has good lighting.
