When I hike my camping gear weights about 20 kg if i pack light, and then you'll have to add the photography equipment afterwards. Hauling a lens like the 500mm f/4 IS seems impossible to me other than for roadside shooting. Cheers.. his gear list is not so bad. its the wish list!

I've also tried it for wakeboarding from the shore. 500mm is too long for my other sports shooting, I also have the 300/2.8 which is a better choice for indoors and smaller venues.
