I am starting up a side business for my photography and was originally going to name it after myself, but after doing some searching, I found another photographer using my name (his name too I guess) as his photography business. He lives in a different province than I do, but would this cause problems if I were to name my business after myself?

Inter provincial business names won't affect you. Unless he has registered it as a copyright.

I do admit, using your personal name REALLY validates the photographer as an artist and seperates him from the "your camera takes nice pictures" crowd. I struggle with naming my business for when I return to Canada, but I struggle only with HOW to use my last name.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I will have to look into it further to see if he has it copyrighted and maybe find out my options from there.
