It doesn't really matter if it's at least USB 2.0 or Firewire (if you have the capability). USB 1.1 is pretty slow but I don't think they even make readers like that anymore.

Personally I use a Sandisk Imagemate 7 in 1.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Yeah mine's the older version of that. Pretty nifty, IMHO.

Wait I lied. Mine's a 9 in 1. I only ever use CF though. :)

You might as well hook up your camera direct if you don't wanna take the card out. The entire point of card readers is to free up the camera and save their batteries.

So in a word, "no." :)

I use Sandisk Imagemate CF reader. I hate those 12 in ones because they add like 8 new drives to your computer that you'll never use. The CF-only reader adds only ONE drive to your list, and it's the only one you'll need if you are shooting canon DSLR.
The sandisk imagemate CF USB2 reader was also rated as one of the fastest.

If you want to get real pro, there is a lexar setup that daisy chains together so you can stack as many as you want and offload the cards simultaneously. But I heard the firewire version is better and faster than the USB2 version.

That's what I'm curious about... having not done any research. Do the card readers not make transfering the images any faster? Assuming the camera is also going over USB 2.0...

I have a Lexar 5 in 1 - only ever use the CF and Memory Stick slots (from the P&S)
It's not failed me, is compact and relatively inexpensive.
