Strangely, my HiTech grads used to give me a strange blue cast, in fairness it was correctable but it would be much nicer to get that sorted in camera. The way I tried to test the cast on the grads was to set a custom white balance without the grad and then take a shot with the grad using that custom white balance. Here is the result from this most unscientific of tests (please excuse the boring shot) clicky (external link).

Anyone else have a Lee filter holder that is not round? My 77mm WA adapter ring won't fit in the holder hole without forcing it. Then it's too tight to rotate. Rotating it just makes it pop back out part way which leaves it dangling by the latch.

Sounds like it has warped in your bag maybe, had it happen to one of mine, just store it with the ring on and it should go back in shape, if on the other hand its new and it behaves like that, send it back for a refund.

All of the photographs in this thread are so brilliant they inspired me to take the plunge. I can't wait to give my filters a go (once they finally get here). In the end I decided to go for Lees, if this thread is anything to go buy great things can be managed with them. Unfortunately, although I should soon have the filters, I suspect I may be lacking the talent :D.

I'd post the resulting shots here only I'm sure they wouldn't be allowed given the affiliation of the forum. I continue regardless to comment on the great work here, every page is filled with truly wonderful landscapes.

I really can't wait to get them, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to post given that I don't have the same affiliation as this forum with regards to gear. I don't want to open up a can of worms in this fantastic thread!

These holders are made from very thick, very rigid, injection molded plastic. How did you make yours round again?

This one has a measured difference of 4mm between the X and Y axis. The shortest direction in line with the latch.

Here's another from me that I processed yesterday. When I stack my Hitech 1.2 and 0.6 together I get a strong magenta cast. It is from the 0.6. I've never gotten the cast from the 1.2 by itself.
In processing I left some of the magenta as I felt it didn't really take away from this picture.

Ok, I have a question for any 5D users. I purchased a 5D classic and will have it on Friday. I plan to purchase the 17-40 for my landscape lens to replace the 10-20 I used with the 20D.

What filter system will I be able to use without vignetting issues? I had previously planned to get the Lee system with the 10-20, any reason to change my plan to something else?

I have a 5D and 17-40mm, and have just changed to a 100x150mm filter system (Cokin Z holder and HiTech Filters), because of the bad vignetting i was getting on the Cokin P system. I can have the holder with 2 filter slots in place, without any problems. If I add a screw in filter as well as the filter holder I get vignetting at 17mm. It is no problem if I zoom in slightly. I have yet to try it with three filter slots in place. Hope this helps.
Even though I purchased the Cokin holder I think the Lee Holder would be your best option if your not on a budget. Congrats on the 5D also, you will love it.
Kev

Thanks Kev. I have a cokin P but have never been able to use it at my widest focal lengths. I'm used to the width of 10mm on a 1.6 crop so I'm already going to lose 1mm on the 17mm at full frame. lol I want as little vignetting as possible so I can stay as wide as I can go.
Thanks for the info. I had been leaning towards Lee so I'll probably just stick with that.

I cant say how much mine was out i didnt bother measuring it, i just stored it in a pouch with an adaptor ring fixed to it and it went back into shape. Needless to say i am more careful when transporting filter holders in my bag these days.
