Thanks Andrew. The reason I don't have a gear list up is bcoz' I'm really considering shooting Nikon. After seeing what Nikon has been releasing, it wouldn't hurt to try. :) I've been debating on shooting another system for over a year now and I think it's time. :)

NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

So would it be the D3 line of products for you? I have to say i do admire some of their lenses, only some :) I bet you can guess which i admire most.
Well should you be looking for buyers for any of your equipment then let me know.

I have a question for those using Lee filter holders.
Is the hole in the center of your holder round?
Does your adapter ring rotate freely inside the holder?

Mine holder is oval-shaped and the adapter ring must be forced into the holder to insert it properly. Now the ring is basically wedged tight in the holder. When I rotate it, the ring pops back out part way.

Notice the extra gap on the sides. But with the ring seated against the bottom, it still overlaps at the top.

I would like to know if they are all made like this or mine is defective.
Thanks for any info.

QUOTED IMAGE

Yes its faulty- its meant to freely rotate around the ring. If it arrived like that then i would send it back.

Brand new from the box, not used. Bought from The Filter Connection, they have agreed to replace it. But when they checked another new holder, said it looks just like the one in my pic. :\

Got mine 3-4 weeks ago and it looks the same. I always wondered why the spring loaded pin would not go back in all the way with the adapter in.

Haven't had much time to get out of late, but thought I'd post these. Shot on a 40D with a combination of LEE 3stop hard/soft and a Singh Ray 3stop reverse.

Not too sure yet. It looks like Nikon might be releasing an equivalent of the D3x in a D700 body at PMA 2010. I'm really hoping this happens bcoz' I don't want to splash out 7K USD on a D3X. This would be a great opportunity to shoot two systems. If I do decide to sell off my Canon stuff, I'll let you know first hand. :)

Got mine 3-4 weeks ago and it looks the same. I always wondered why the spring loaded pin would not go back in all the way with the adapter in.

I got mine in December and noticed that I had to "snap" the adapter ring in place as well. Upon closer inspection, mine also looks like the one in the picture and never rotated as smoothly as you would expect for the price we paid. Also, when fitted, I can wiggle the holder around the ring from side to side, but not up and down. Ironically, my cheap Cokin holder fits a lot better on its adapter ring than the Lee holder does.

My holder has been backordered for quite a while before it was shipped because Lee was experiencing problems with their injection molding process. Perhaps those problems had not been properly resolved before they started cranking out a new batch?

If all these holders are the same, then there's probably no point in returning them. :(

Another thing I'm wondering about is the brass bolt. The way the wedge part is shaped, you need to pull out the bolt to mount the holder onto the adapter ring, but it can be popped back off without pulling the bolt. Shouldn't that be the other way around?

Got mine last month and it's the same. Hasn't caused any problems thus far and I probably wouldn't have realised had I not read the post! Ignorance is bliss or at least it was!;)

I guess before I buy a new filter system I will CALL and ask these specific questions to make sure I'm not getting a warped holder.

No that is different and is normal. the pin wont go all the way in its not meant to, this is about the holder not rotating freely around the wide angle adaptor.

No do buy them, there is no better, there are many many people on this forum on this very thread happy with their Lee holders.
