No that is different and is normal. the pin wont go all the way in its not meant to, this is about the holder not rotating freely around the wide angle adaptor.

But isn't it odd that you need to pull out the pin to attach the holder while you can remove it without touching the pin?

No do buy them, there is no better, there are many many people on this forum on this very thread happy with their Lee holders.

Can you provide some kind of rationale for these warped/non-circular holders that don't fit on their adapter rings like they're designed to? I'm not being flippant, but I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed with that particular aspect of my holder in light of all those glowing endorsements.

Another thing I'm wondering about is the brass bolt. The way the wedge part is shaped, you need to pull out the bolt to mount the holder onto the adapter ring, but it can be popped back off without pulling the bolt. Shouldn't that be the other way around?

The idea is that if you snag your holder with something it will release and fall off rather than toppling your gear from a tripod or breaking something.

Check this thread... Lee Filter Holder - made wrong?

All the photos are fabulous but I have a question for those of you that posted... Besides using the filter ow much post processing was used? Are these photoshopped?

That depends. Some are exposure blended and some not. :)

Gorgeous pic moacur! I don't know what the water starts/ends. Reminds me of when we released turtles a few years ago.

I just noticed this series of posts regarding the Lee holder. I'll have to check mine to see if it's perfectly round but I do know I have no issues rotating it freely.

Now I DO have an adapter ring (for a 58mm thread) that doesn't fall into place as easily as it should in my opinion, but it's a normal, non-wide angle and is made of plastic itself. In fact it's minor enough that I haven't looked at it close to see what the issue is but could be as simple as a piece of flash on the ring.

Unless all the Lee holders are slightly out of round, I suspect they got a batch that were molded a little too fast (faster cycle, hotter part out of the mold = more chance for warparge to occur).

That is VERY easy to have happen in injection molding, but yes I do believe it should have been caught if that is what's going on. I know Lee had some major manufacturing issues last year (the mold got wrecked) and it took a while to get it repaired. I hope the molder wasn't running parts too fast in order to catch up with demand.

In any event, I'd contact Lee directly if you're having an issue and describe it to them. They're probably getting the molding done by someone else and possibly aren't aware there has been a problem. Either way I'm sure they would replace the holder for you.

I guess before I buy a new filter system I will CALL and ask these specific questions to make sure I'm not getting a warped holder.

I haven't had any issues with my Lee filters holders. I don't see anything better out on the market.

Ok 1. No it isn't weird as the guy below has already pointed out

and 2. I can only assume that it is to prevent the holder spinning freely around with no force exerted on to it. I have checked mine today and it isnt a perfect circle for the adaptor ring but it does rotate with a nice amount of resistance. It works for me and alot of people, if you dont like it then dont buy it.

That is indeed a lovely shot. Can i ask, did you use a 105mm CPL with that?

Thanks for the link, that does explain this design decision. Although my holder still clamps on to the adapter ring firmly enough for my rig to come crashing down long before it detaches.

Which would make sense, if it weren't for the fact the the ring doesn't fall flush with the surface of the holder towards the brass ring; the holder is "warped" just enough to prevent the ring from being properly seated.

Thanks for that bit of advice, although I'm not sure what to make of it as it is pretty obvious that those who are pointing out this issue have already purchased the holder.

Well, it works for me and a lot of people, so...;)

I don't like the Cokin filters because of their color cast, but never really had any issues with their holder. It's cheaply made, but entirely functional.

Nope, 77mm B&W screwed onto the lens and then the LEE holder screwed onto the CPL.
