Took this last weekend in Italy..

Used a 0.6 grad to keep the detail in the clouds... then ran a burn tool over them to bring them out a touch more.

Ok well iv decided on the Cokin P series kit as shown here: http://www.speedgraphic.co.uk …=Cokin+P+ND+Graduated+Kit (external link)

Just wanting to confirm the 72mm adapter ring in here (http://www.speedgraphic.co.uk …i=14835&1=Cokin+P+Adaptor (external link)) is what i need to complete the set? For a Sigma 17-70.

Ospi, I've no idea what the diameter of your Sigma 17-70 lens is, but it will say on it. If you've also got a UV or skylight filter fitted, that will say too. Just buy an adapter of the same diameter.

Yep it is 72mm, i was just making sure getting both those things would complete the needed kit for the filter system. Im used to circular scew ins so having all these different parts for the cokin kit gets a bit confusing.

I bought the graduated kit too, and that comes with 3 ND filters and a holder, so the only extra bit will be your 72mm adapter ring, and you'll be ready to go. Have you considered getting an adapter for your 70-300 too? They're not expensive, and you could then use your filters on that lens. Obviously, if you were later to buy the circular polariser (external link), then as this fits in the P-series holder, then you could use that for both lenses too.

Here's one of my newest shots since I have moved to North Carolina. It was taken at Bass Lake. Here I used my SinghRay LB Warming Poalriser, 2 stop GND Lee Filter w/ hood. Hope you like it. Thanks.

Another "how to use ND filters" question. Do people put the ND filter on and just meter to the lightest object in the field of view and shoot using those settings? I've heard of people metering w/o the filter on and then putting the ND filter on and meter based on the settings w/the filter off which seems like alot of trouble to me. It's really cold out right now so I haven't been able to experiment but inside, I've metered a shot inside that seems to have high dark/light contrast w/o my filter on and then put the filter on and metered on the same object and shot and when I look at the two photos, they look the same. Just wondering what people do...

If I'm metering with the camera, I'll do that then add the filter. If I'm using a handheld meter, it doesn't really matter.

One of mine below. Looking at it now I think I might brighten the foreground a bit.

I only got one of those (.9 GND) but, yes, if you want all three. Which holder are you planning on getting if you haven't yet?

Thanks, I'll be getting the set then. I need to get a holder, but not sure which yet. I supose it will need to fit a 77mm size. Lens would be a 17-40 and a wider one when I buy them.
