What a difference between soft and hard edge? what do they do differently by looks?

Hard edge means the line between the dark area and light area of the filter is a straight line.... while on soft edge filters the Dark are fades into the clear area along the middle...

to eliminate the line of the hard filter you need to feather it or put it exactly on the horizon to hide it AFAIK. I have never used a HE though... ask Julian for further explanation hehe

Thank you Beski.. :D you can check my answer to Geoff above... basically the lower falls has no shade and was actually brighter than the upper falls so I inverted the GND putting the dark portion below and the light portion above to even out the scene but somehow the upper portion came out a bit brighter :D

yes :D the GND was just there to even out the scene

here's another shot of another falls on the same day  this time the dark portion of the GND is on top

ND1.2 + GND 3 stops

Ditto on this shot too. It must be a luxury to have such photogenic places to travel to. How much do you have to travel for these shots?

Thank you very much:lol:

I just saw the scene while the sun was beaming at it and thought I should take this shot... its a dirt road going up to a small town. quite scenic though  this was actually one of my first shots with the D700 when I got it almost a year ago.

its about a 2hour drive from where I am... there is actually nothing there hehe

Thank you, I shot this on another island... I went there last Holyweek drove around for 1400km and shot these waterfalls (4 of them) and a lot of other things.
