I think the 17-40 is really great with f4 for outdoor landscapes. I just go high on ISO for darker shots outdoors, but indoors, not great without a flash. I love the 24-70, so that is a great choice and on the 5D, that lens is going to be amazing.

Yeah, if I had $2500 to spend, I'd get the 5D now, but I'm waiting for the 15th so I can see what the double rebates will be. Some people have posted here, but I'm waiting for the official notice when B&H has it up on their website and I can order 2 things and get the rebate. Too bad the extenders aren't included this time. I heard the 1.4x extender is really great on the 70-200 f4. I'm sure you have not enough memory for your 5D right now and I have to rethink that too, buying more 2 GB CF cards because I have just 4 1 GB cards and the 5D will eat those up at one event. Good luck! Sounds like you're going to be looking for the brown boxes soon.

Since you can afford it, and don't have wide covered, how about just getting the 24-70? It's wide...just not ultra-wide.

BTW...you don't NEED to spend the full $2500.

I think the more we are on this forum and hear about what everyone has or can use, it's hard not to want more, especially more lenses. I've been thinking about that lately as I can't fit anymore gear into my Velocity 9 bag and I think once I get my 5D, I'm going to quit for a while. $2500 is a good budget if that is what you set for yourself after paying all bills and necessities. But if you have the money and that is something that will improve your hobby and skills, it's okay. Looking at your list of gear, I'd say save a bit by waiting a week for the rebates to kick in and save yourself a couple of hundred dollars.

I sorta feel this way too.

Yeah and I know with f/4 and inside shooting I would more than likely use my flash anyway. I am never anywhere where flash isnt allowed.

As far as the 24-70 goes... I have held it once lol. Felt solid and I think that will definitely suit my needs there.

And as far as memory goes... I totally understand. I need more.

Bring on the brown! lol I am excited again.

Good for you. I am holding out until I get my paycheck on the 15th and then I'll see if I can work on the rest of the money. :)
