As some older salts here might remember, my present brick copy (aka 24-70L) is the third one I have tried and settled on.
The lens has since become my old battlehorse.....invariably, whenever I have no specialized photo purpose, the brick ends up on the camera.
To me, the IQ is just good all around, every which way. The lens ain't finicky, it seldom surprises in a negative way.
This evening we went for a walk to our local marina. I took some casual snaps, handheld as always, well past the golden hour, at ISO 200 and unseemly low shutterspeeeds. Looking at the JPGS, I am quite pleased with the veracity of subtle colours that the 20D+ 24-70L managed to capture.

That's the purpose of this post.....to attempt to share with you some of that overall IQ stimmung that the setup managed to captured rather well. Again, remember, these are JPGs resized for the web, straight outta camera.
I do not know if these small images can really convey the "feeling", but I'll try.

I love the moon in the second shot.

I don't have the Canon L version of this lens, but I feel I get decent results from my Sigma also. And, if I don't know what I am going shoot for the day, that's the lens I have on most of the time.

I share your love for the brick, Petkal. You ought to see the veracity of the colors out of the 5D. Simply stunning.

I can imagine. However, I am holding out until the next gen 30D and 5D come out.....then I'll see what to do.

No doubt in my mind, the 5D is a super camera, however, at present my dRebel, 20D and MkIIN are meeting most of my needs.

I can see that. I just needed the best high ISO performance I could get, and right now, that's the 5D, by a noticeable margin.

getting "real" colors is so difficult. I find a lot of my photos may have nice, or beautiful colors, but arn`t "real"... Nice images, love the reflections.
