This thread will soon have the first photos taken of my second kid, which is being born sometime tonight or tomorrow morning.

I just got told by my very lovely pregnant wife I cannot bring multiple cameras or studio lights into the Hospital (j/k -although I did want to bring more than one lens  ) so I ended up choosing the following:

Canon 30D with 50mm II 1.8 (2Gb Card x2, Will shoot JPG Fine or RAW, not sure yet).

I originally wanted to take Sigma 24-70 2.8, but space and mobility issues pushed for 50mm, and the extra aperture for low light should work. Will still see if I can fit the 18-55mm somewhere, so that I do not have to step back a mile to take two people in a single frame.

Got The Battery Pack recharged, and the AAs all good to go just as backup.

Anyhow, here we go, and I will post the photos as soon as I get back, either tomorrow evening or Monday morning.

Cheers !...

Have a great time! Congrats! I would take in RAW with a 2GB card. You never know how bad the lighting will be or if you'll forget to set the white balance correctly in the excitement. Might as well limit any possible problems. :-)

Good thinking. My common sense went out the window 120 minutes ago.

RAW it is.

OK, HERE ARE THE PHOTOS !!!!

(Moderators would probably require me to say two things: Beware of slow times 56k modem browsers, and There are a few photos that Show a new born baby right out of the womb, bloody, chord uncut - don't want anyone whinning saying I did not mention it). However it is not tasteless, to the contrary.

http://www.gravina-productions.net …s/newbabygravina_1008.htm (external link)

(Since I am still learning to embed the photos, and these are a bunch, I decided to simply link them out, rather than just experiment. Haven't slept in two days, and I am seeing double).

By the way, close ups are good, but I did regret often not having something wider than 50mm. The compact size of the lens did help out though. Some people inside the hospital seemed intimidated by the camera.

Please choose your three favorite photos, and then take a moment to tell me why #2 and #3 of your choices did not make it to your #1 favorite selection (does that make sense?) . Thanks for the imput.

:)

I would go with 29 myself to pick just one. The finger was great, I can only hope my son will do that for the camera for fun.

Oh my gosh.. these are sooo beautiful... I love capturing a "MOMENT' rather than just a shot.. perfection at it's finest... Almost makes me want to have just "One More". These are my favorite moments of parenthood... Lovely! Congratulations! :)

This is absolutely a beautiful set of pictures of one of the true miracles in the world, Mario. (I'm still been remebered by my wife that when we were in the same situation I was more interested about the hospital equipment and taking photographs that about her. We can see that you took good care of both of your girls.)

I trust we can follow her growing!

Thanks, kristy, maureen and Olli for the comments and compliments.

And thanks for bringing the marriage deal up. Today I realized that this little girl will make me 'live' the Father of the Bride movie, frame by frame. ;)

Congratulations Mario on becoming a father for the second time. Beautiful girl indeed and great photos. I like #25, #26 and #33, the last one being my favourite of the series as it is showing such happiness and perhaps a bit of embarrassment on Matthew’s face.
I have two boys and saw them both coming to the world. Out of many experiences you can get in life this is something really worth participating in. Having said so, I think my wife would have called a lawyer if I came anywhere near the camera during labour;) . The camera was to stay in my bag until it was all over and she was feeling relaxed and comfortable, i.e. about 1h after. I agreed as I am not sure how I would have coped with the camera if I was in her place.
Your wife is really brave and needs to be congratulated before you I am afraid. Pressing the button on 30D is a peace of cake in comparison. I know this well enough as I have one of them too:)
