Hope that's a little better of an description for ya Dwight....

A little more work from Cameron Indoor - hope you enjoy it and please critique if you feel the urge. Still working for that breakout image - just haven't found it yet.

I have this thing about finger play in volleyball... I know the power game is exciting.. but the touch play is just so more interesting to me photographically

Nice job Mark. You really nailed these. ISO640? Must be some awesome lighting in there.

Mark - these are all outstanding! #2 is my favorite :) I love how the seats fade into darkness, and the ball and her hand just really POP!

Mark, those are fantastic pictures. May I ask what lens did you use for those shots? Thanks

If you look at the EXIF, my money is on 85 1.8.

Thanks, I did look at the EXIF and was thinking the same (that or the 1.2L) but since I'm new to photography :), I wasn't sure myself.

The 85L, even the newer one, is still going to be slower in AF. You really can't top the 85 1.8 or 100 2 for AF speed and low light.

The other choices you might tend to see would be 135L or 70-200 2.8L

Hey Grego..... thanks for filling in on this.... and yes, I was using my 85 f1.8. And yes, you need to get out there and shoot some ladies VB - particularly under the much better conditions a college venue will provide.

Thanks Brad for the comments..... it just does go to prove how much of it is having the right setting is.

Joey - you just keep up those positive thoughts

Mike - Greg had me covered... and yes, this was the 85 on an old 1D. Being on a 1.3 factor vs 1.6 factor body helped and hurt. I used to be able to get cross court shots with the lens when I shot with a 20D, but now those are a little too far away. But for the closer bumping and setting shots, the relative shorter focal lenght was better. One thing I did notice is for once I didn't notice any advantage of the 1d's focus over the 1Ds.

Well done, some really nice shots.

One question: For VB, what did you use for focus? Single point, multi point, or combination?

Thinking about branching out to sports other than Football.

Thanks for looking!

Hey Kevin... personally I like shooting the sport. I know lots complain, but I like the challenge. Having a good f1.x lens in your pocket is key. At cameron I don't need to use it but still. As to focus point - with the way the 30D has it's focus points positioned, center point is the safest. I have played a lot with all variations of that, and really haven't found anything else that works. With the old 10d, the first one of center either right or left depending which side of the net your shooting works best - but alas - the 20/30d don't have that one. But go for it Kevin... it is about the most oposite of a sport there is to Football. It's a real fast paced game when played properly and to high levels. Cheers.
