I just rediscovered a series of pics I took of a friend of mine and his baby boy back in March, and did not realize what a touching moment was captured in this shot 'til now. The original was poorly exposed and a little blurry... I am wondering what you all think of this shot as I post-processed it [Brightened and desaturated].

Comments? Critique? Thank you for any suggestions!

it IS a very powerful shot. amazing emotion and capture. i can see my eye move towards the baby as the subject due to it having more contrast and i like it that way. very well done.

Great image! The love of the father for the baby really shows.

You may want to fully desaturate the photo to remove the few distracting colors which remain - unless you made the active choice to leave those areas colored. I'd image not though, as they aren't the focus afterall.

I do think B&W works better for this pic than full color, but it seems a little plain without some color to set the tone. I agree with you that the things that ARE in color are not important parts of the shot (as the eyes, cheeks or lips might be if they were in color). I appreciate your critique. What do you think of these compared to that first one?

Comparing the images, I agree that simply BW does fall a bit flat - but I still don't like the selective desaturation either. The sepia verson appeals, but to me the sepia filter look too strong.

As you have edits allowed, here are two variations. One only 90% desaturated, the other with 25% sepia filtering applied.

What do you think?

Yeah, I like the 90% desat. Preserving the blue in the baby's shirt works better for the pic than the dad's rust sweater cuff. :) The 25% sepia looks good too, but i prefer the desat.

Thanks for posting your mods.
