Does anyone know where (if you even still can) you can get a new EF28-105 3.5 Macro Made in Japan with the seven blades, or even a good used one would be nice. And does anyone know how this lense compares with the 3.5 with the 5 blades.

I have no idea if it's made in Japan or not - it really doesn't matter. this is a good lens. The Mark I version and the Mark II version both have a closest focus distance of 0.5m and both magnify the image by 0.19 x lifesize - so having a macro icon on one of them was purely decorative. they both function the same. I think the Mark I version had a 5 blade aperture though, and this would affect bokeh. So, are you saying that there is no difference between the lens with the Macro icon flower, and the one with the word Macro on it? and what about the difference between the 5, and 7 blade diaphram lens. And, sorry if this is a stupid question, im still new at photography, but what is bokeh?? Thanks for the reply. Those that say "MACRO" are those destined for the USA. Dr. David de la Llata

It's a good lens, but I've stopped using it now that I have a 17-40 and 70-200. It served me well for a year and a half on film and digital. --Alex Editorial Portfolio

I wonder why this lens was discontinued since the new version the F4.0 is such an inferior lens. Strange. Canon USA, Japan, UK, Germany, and Europe list the lens as a current model. It may, however, be the case that the lens is no longer marketed in your region (I don't know where you're located). For example the EF 90-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM is not sold in the US, while the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III is not sold in Japan. Website
