I have a EF 300mm F/2.8L on order, There doesnt seem to be anything
available to protect the front glass. Does anybody make something that
can slip over the hood to protect the glass from dust between shots? Thanks

Only the hood. I don't think there are threads on the front of the lens. The hood offers a lot of protection as it is metal.

another option is to use a cover from a teflon bowl (like the one you use for storing food). i know the CDS uses one on his 500F4 IS and it works great so maybe he will chime in with more info...

Check out OpTech Hood Hats, a neoprene cover you can stretch over the front of the hood.

The front element in the big lenses provides the protection. If this gets damaged it is relativev cheap to replace (comparedd to the flourite lenses!!!!!).

The hood will offer the most protection if you drop it. Always have the hood on if you can!

Can you tell me what size to order to fit the 300 2.8?

Many thanks.

The front element is a replaceable glass protector I believe.

I don't believe in protection -- err, for my lenses, that is.

And if I was lucky enough to own the 300 f2.8, I wouldn't use one either.

:)

This is an excellent product. I use one for all of my lenses and love it. It is so much easier than dealing with lens caps during a shoot and gives much more protecxtion. Plus they are fairly cheap.
