Canada Geese on a mud island in the reeds. The closer one actually bit off and ate a few blades of that reed grass. The lighting was great.

ID needed on this hawk or falcon. He wouldn't pose, so all I got is back and side shots. I think he's too small to be a Redtail.

Pics 2 & 4 are woodies- males and a female. The hawk/falcon is a peregrine falcon. They are making a comecack in Wisconsin- good catch and a nice pose.
The falcon is probably there to feed on the ducks- a favored prey animal!

Wow, you got a bunch of really nice birds. Love the geese in the reeds. I would also be happy with any and all of them.

Thanks Paul and Jim.

I thought he had his eye on that Mallard hen in the last pic. He sure was looking at it hard. The hen had no clue he was there. :D

Thanks Cat, getting the falcon was a great feeling. It was the first ones I looked at when I got the CF card out. :D

Getting the wood ducks was luck. They were hiding in some brush out in the water, and I almost missed them.

Has anyone used a Circular Polarizer filter on birds before? Wondering what the effect would be? ;)

Nice shots, especially the Peregrine. How lucky you were to get that close! I'm not used to seeing them in such branchy environments.

It wasn't as branchy as it looks here. I was on a sort of dyke built through this wetlands area. The Peregrine was in a branch of this huge half dead Cottonwood tree growing along the edge of this dyke. So really, it was the only tree around but I was only able to shoot from one side of it. He was on the water side with a wide open view. :D

I have since found out there is a pair nesting on the face of one of the banks downtown, and supposedly another pair near the riverside park. Haven't seen them myself.

Thanks Tony. It was a special day to get that many different birds in one area at one time. Must be because they are migrating now.
