So I was out with the family today at Hoylake, Wirral, hoping to make best use of the high tide and the strong winds. Sadly the strong winds had dropped and nothing was blown inshore that was worth mentioning, until I spotted a small cormorant on a post. Wow - that looks unusual I thought. Got my lens cranked all the way up to 800mm and started shooting. I could see that the bird was smaller than a Common Comorant and had interesting brown and white markings. I could see the headline in Birding Magazine already "UK photographer catches rare Rusty Cormorant" So here is a pic:

Ha, I got it right away. Had to read the post to make sure.

But I think the picture shows the rust better than real life maybe.

This is a crop - but the fact it didn't move a muscle for 20 minutes shout have been a clue!

Funny thing is that some other people started to look at what I was looking at and a guy with a G6 was shooting away. I didn't admit it was a fake when I realised - was to embarrassed.

IT TOOK ME ABOUT 3 MINUTES TO REALISE IT WAS A METAL STATUE!! :D:D:D:D:D[/QUOTE]

I did the same thing with a closeup of an early spring flower. A few weeks later my wife pointed out to me that is was an artificial flower:cry: :) :o

That's so funny! Cool statue though. And I've actually seen people post pictures of fake flowers that they thought were real. I didn't have the heart to tell them....
