It's an old FD mount lens. Take off the skylight filter and see what it says on the front of the lens.

Yeah it's definitely an FD mount. f/2.8 max aperture...can't say much else about it without seeing the front sans filter.

It's a Kalimar 28mm f/2.8 lens. MC means it's multi-coated. Not sure what would be Automatic about it? Manual focus, of course. FD mount as already stated. FD mount has been basically abandoned by Canon in favor of the "new" EF mount. You could toss it up on eBay and probably get a few bucks for it. Canon branded lenses like this are going for around 50 bucks, Sigmas around 40.

Yeah you wont be able to do much with it... you *could* get an adaptor to use the FD lens on a EF body, but these all come with crappy glass which really kills the quality... I fell victim to this :*(.

But, it wasn't a complete waste, with the lens element within the adaptor removed, it makes quite a decent (very) close up lens!

I did not know about the adapter, but it does not seem that would be a good option. Looks like I will put it on ebay. Thanks so much for the great advice!!

It's an FD-compatible third-party lens - and not a great one at that. I forgot who sold the Kalimar brand (Sears, maybe?). You could use it on the Rebel via an adapter, but believe me, it's just not worth it. I tried myself as I have an extensive FD lens collection including a 50mm f/1.2L - and even that sucked.

Get yourself an old A-1 or AE-1 Program and shoot film with it or put it on eBay.

Get an old film body to use with it. It will help you focus more on your technique since you won't be able to fire off half a dozen shots just letting the camera pick all the settings. When you have to pick your subject carefully, then achieve the perfect focus manually, you will put more thought into your shots. Anything that helps you develop your skills will be a good thing!

I've still got an old AE-1. I'd be delighted to have this cheap little gem.
