I found the dried out puddles on this dirt road interesting today so I layed on my side and gave it a go. I think I missed my focus point as I didn't get the DOF I was hoping for.

C&C welcome.

Great sky and composition, may be just a little dark in the foreground, but that may be just me.

I would suggest lightening the foreground too Robert as that is the subject of the photo but is a bit dark to appreciate the patterns.

Yes it's a little dark in the foreground, but I like the composition and the distortion the Sigma has given you (long live the UWA Sigma!)

Great composition but you're right about the DOF. I would use less fill light on the sky if you can?

You all are definitely right, the foreground is too dark. I exposed for the sky and, even though the sun was behind me, the FG on the original is even darker.

Unfortunately, I don't have this in RAW or I would just merge a couple of exposures. I was off with my son yesterday and just taking Jpeg snapshots and forgot to change back to RAW. I might need to start carrying a checklist. ;)

Thank you all for your feedback.

Lovely textures and composition. There's a nice sense of depth to the image :D

Nicely compossed and plenty of detail in the fg Robert.
The light balance is not as it should be though, some very bright whites in the clouds and the fg could do with a bit more expossure.
If you shot raw no problem, get 2 expossures and blend them together, its a very nice image not to.

I like the composition of the shot but as others have said, maybe a bit lighter in the forground.

But what this picture has done has made me want to go get the sigma 10-20. I allready have 2 other sigmas and Im very happy with them, and was wondering what a difference the 10 end of this would give me over the 18 end of my standard lens, but that was answered while looking at another thread that made a comparison

The clouds are very nice today as well. I "think" that I might be able to get away and give it another try (it's only 10 minutes away) before it rains and re-hydrates that mud. ;) :D I'll definitely shoot it in RAW if I do and give the GND a try as well.

Thank you Dimitri.

You're right, those two comparison threads are great, aren't they? My advice to you, you HAVE to have this lens! ;)

Thank you for your kindness my friend.

Excellent comp on this shot Robert but I'd love see another shot with Dimitri's recommendations. This technique really does a shot justice.

HrcRacing, its all very well you saying I have to HAVE that lens, but I live in Rip Off Britain where everything is twice as much as with you. I normally wait till Im on holiday over there and buy my lenses that way.

I am actually wrong, not everything is twice as much as with you.......petrol is four times as much.......you should have seen the faces of two friends who visited me from the USA when they had to fill up their bikes and it cost more than filling up their gas gusling US cars/trucks.

Sorry Ill get off my soap box now...

HrcRacing, I messed around with your photo a little bit in photoshop and lightened the foreground, I can post up what I did if you like, just let me know.

I was so close to having it just now Frank. I had some other commitments but ran over there right afterwards and promptly missed it by about 5 minutes. The worst part is that the sky was better today. Dark clouds mixed with pink hues. I might need a tissue. ;)

Thank you Frank.
