I bought a 30D about a month ago, with the idea that I might start an aerial photography business to ease into retirement. Unfortunately, my airplane (Piper Cub) had to spend the next month getting an engine overhaul, so this weekend I finally got to take both the new camera and the "new" plane out for a trial run.

I've put some of the pictures on a temporary web page (external link) because I couldn't quite figure out how to avoid breaking any of the image rules here. Any or all of them can be enlarged by clicking the image.

This is my first DLSR, so I know I've got a lot to learn. I'm also just beginning to use PhotoShop Elements, although these pictures have only been adjusted slightly for contrast and occasionally hue, but nothing else. I'm very open to some constructive criticism (about the photos, that is. The web page is another project.  )

Oh well, here's one or two of them in thumbnail form:

The rest of them, and the links to the full size are here. (external link)

(All with 17-85 IS and 70-200 f/2.8 IS)

Beautiful stuff there.

Back in my childhood, I remember occasionally people would stop by with an 8x10 aerial shot of the farm and try to sell it to my dad. He usually didn't buy, mostly because he didn't like the angle it was shot from. Even if he liked the shot, he would haggle pretty hard on the price, knowing that it wasn't worth much to anyone else.

When he retired and moved off the farm, he went to the local airport and hired a plane to take him up to get his own shot. He had an old photo from the 40's and he wanted to match the angle.

Good luck with your venture. I'm sure you're aware that it's prime time for scenic shots in Vermont right now. You might want to add a nice wide-angle zoom to your kit.

I don't think that works well in the airplane, at least for oblique photography because parts of the airplane get included in the image.
