Though I mostly like minimalist and simple design, like Nordic or Italian design, I really like our almost decadent looking espresso cups.

I had set up the lighting for taking new photos of my avatar, and thought I would give it a go with the espresso cup as well. I used a single bounced 430EX on camera, and a big white paper as a reflector. Next time I’ll put espresso in the cup before taking the photo and maybe some coffee beans around the cup :)

And as always, C&C is most welcome.

Nice cup but to centered IMHO. It might be better moved to the top left corner with some beans, as you suggested, or something else in front. This may help give the effect of the baby overlooking things and draw ones eyes to the image on the mug. As it is now the first thing I look at is the writing. Good color and exposure.

Excellent lighting! The black is black and that's not always easy to pull off.

I agree about off-centering it and look forward to seeing your next take with additional props. Maybe a biscotti even. ;)

Fill and beans would be great, maybe even some sugar or spoon, or maybe a stick of cinnamon)))Love the light!

sorry, I only saw this one now
I like it very much
it's a beautiful cup and saucer and very well photographed

I know what's meant though
and what you want .........
the aroma is not around to make the mouth water while looking at it
its a difficult one
but I like this very much ,as it is , for the moment

:)
ps
I think it may look good for the avatar you mention as the lovely picture on the cup will stand out more then the coffee inside a plain cup and in such a small version of the shot
(as is in an avatar)

edit

again sorry

I realise now that you did not mean for the shot to be your avatar
on reading above post properly

oops
edit again
reading again
not sure of anything now
maybe you did mean it for an avatar shot

anyway , no harm done

:)

regards, Marie

Thanks marie :) You pretty much got it right, I think :)

My original avatar (the first attached image), a pic I took before I started reading on the POTN forum seemed a little bit plain... So I thought I would give it a try to get a little bit more interesting lighting, but the same subject. And as I took a few shots of what then became my new avatar (the second attached image), I thought it would be cool to try taking a few shots of something else, but with the same lighting setup :) and voilà, he beginning of this thread :)
