Absolutely agree with ya there, 100%. My next lens purchase will be a telephoto w/ 1.4x TC, either the 70-200 F/4 or the 200 F/2.8.

Oct 09, 2006 17:49 | #18 I used the Canon white one, The EF 1.4 Extender MKII. They are not that much on B&H's website for the best of the best TC and it is the same color as the lens. And has the highest resale value should you find yourself never using it. Christopher J. Martin

I toyed around with the idea of getting a 1.4x TC as well. In the end, I went with a 2x II TC. I didn't have to buy another $1400 lens, the existing 70-200mm f/2.8L IS has a better IS revision and as a bonus maintains the weathersealing which the 100-400mm lacks altogether. The 1.4x TC just didn't offer the range I wanted. 140-280mm isn't that great, IMO. In my (thus far) limited experience with the combo, it produces fantastic shots and IS at 400mm is very doable! I'm happy with my choice. You should read the message from Tdragone: " you CANNOT use the canon TC with this lens as the Max Aperture 5.6 + the 1 stop you lose with the TC means you lose Autofocus. " With a 1D you're fine, with any lesser camera you are not! You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! Any lens that's f/2.8 or brighter can be used with the 2x TC and retain AF... From Canon's own site: "With the EF 2x II, AF is possible with any EOS body if the lens has an f/2.8 or faster maximum aperture, and compatible Image Stabilization lenses maintain the IS feature when used with any current EOS camera." http://www.usa.canon.com …tegoryid=154&modelid=7463 It worked on my D30 when shooting the moon the other night as a goof, even! But you also mentioned the 100-400, which is f/4-5.6 ...net result f/8 or slower with the 2X TC. And while your f/2.8L with the 2x TC works fine, not everyone reads that level of detail and they could well be mislead into thinking any 70-200 will be fine with the 2X TC. I don't even know if it's on the list of supported lenses (probably not). As for the 70-200mm f/4 lenses, right, you lose some AF ability on non-1Dxx bodies. I was strictly talking about the f/2.8 versions (and perhaps could've been a little more specific). La Vida Leica!
