Good Places to shoot Birds in Virginia

Hello all, I would like to learn how to photograph birds and figure the best place to start is with some larger types such as water fowl ie ducks, geese heron and was hoping to get some recommendations for possible shooting locations in the Northern VA, Fredericksburg, Tidewater and other areas within a few hours drive of Fredericksburg.

Also if any photographer in the Fredericksburg Richmond area won't mind someone tagginag along I would gladly cover gas and lunch.
