Dante will be using his new "neonate" EF 300 f/2.8L IS USM hopefully without a TC (?).
I have not decided yet which one to use miself, but there are three options:

(1) 24 TS E......most challenging for me because of the FL and my failing eyesight. Do not have a good focusing screen either. The advantage would be in some special effects the lens allows.

(2) EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM. No problem here except somewhat limited FL.

(3) EF-S 18-55 kit lens. A tough one, but the victory with it would be so sweet.

(Again, each one of us is allowed 3 duck shots in their final submission.)

Which lens would you use out of those three ?

Hang on a cotton pickin' minute, El Commondante. Are those three lenses all you have at your disposal? Or, are you trying to make it a fair fight by using your three cheapest lenses against his best?

And where on earth did you get a 23 tilt shift? I've heard of a 24. I do know you're special though. ;)

Take him down with the kit lens. Photozone shows it to be shaper then the 300 f2.8L. That's sweet...

Mark....you see, I am losing it. (or I have lost it  ): yes, I meant the 24mm TS E.

The kit is inexpensive but the other two ain't.

What's the photo going to be judged on? Composition, technical merit, sharpness, artistic ability, overall wow factor or what??

Oh geeez, Oh geez.....how sweet that would be to have the 18-55 kit lens kick the fat 300 f/2.8 arse.

It's been proposed as technical, originality and artistic merit.

It's been proposed that a three moderators judge panel look at the submissions first and make their verdict. After that, I suppose a thread would be started with the submissions and judges' evaluations.
In other words, no popular voting on this one.;)

My vote's for the 18-55 Peter! EF-S, L, EX, AT-X, none of them have a bearing on the three aforementioned areas of judging :D

Good man, a few of us think the same thing. However, there is always some "realpolitik" in these matters........for example, people find it hard to resist the force of nice f/2.8 bokeh manifest in a photo being judged.

If you can't borrow a 200mm f/1.8, use the 17-55. :)

The 200 f/1.8 would reverse the handicap....we do not want that.;)

However, the 17-55 would yield following advantages:
(1) No wory about camera/lens support.
(2) No need to wait for perfect light.
(3) Bokeh is adequate at f/2.8
(4) IMO, the lens can outresolve the 300 f/2.8 by quite a margin, given sufficient proximity, which brings us to a minor problem..
(5) The 55 mm FL would require extra work on the approach/proximity to the duck.

The only way I can really see you using any of those lenses is if you are going to be photographing the duck at a asian restaurant
