Petkal, I wonder if 300mm will be too long for him. I mean when I was shooting duckies a lot of them wouldn't move far enough away for me to get a proper shot of them.

Canon EOS 30D, Sigma 30 1.4, Sigma 10-20, Sigma 105 Macro, 135L, 430ex, Lowepro Mini Trekker AW, Manfrotto 3001pro w/486rc2 and 804rc2 head, Manfrotto 681 w/ 3232 head.

True, that could be a problem too.
However, looking at it from the camera/lens shake standpoint, 300 mm is too long for him too, since the IS has to be off and the setup must be handheld.
Mwuahahahahahahaha.

Hm. That's a little tricky, eh? He's going to have to find one hell of a day and shoot at ISO 3200 I guess so he can shoot at 1/8000 sec to avoid all handheld shake :D.

Noise is pretty bad in water I would think.

What I want to know though is he definitley shooting with that lens?

At f2.8 I'de think you'de have some bokeh / OOF (not sure how it works in water), and bokeh with lots of noise is bad bokeh I'de imagine.

I agree.....we'll let him be (for now).;)
We can still try to bait Gyrob....the lad has fluorite lenses as well as indubitable skill and determination.

Malone is is good at craic.....however, not exactly a duck shooter.

Yup ... I agree the lad has flourite coming out his ears!

Malone isn't a Duckie shooter, agreed. I wonder about Lord Jesus then? He spend some time with Fishermen and walking around on ponds I think. Worth considering? Maybe he's a Nikon shooter tho', or more likely Leica with his connections ;)

Knowing your spelling liberties, I am oft at a loss which way your mind aims.

In fact, tried to bait Robbie already with his tender spot in-flight photography....no doin' yet.

Either way, it's all innocent silly old fun...who really cares if Petkal shoots them ducks better than Dante (except for Dante of course as well as his own groupies.;) )

However, I do hate to disappoint our dear friend and Sigma Corp. employee Unstoppable F.Jojo. He was looking forward gleefully to an el cheapo lens whipping some fluorite cum UD glass.

All joking aside (very hard for me I know) what interests me in this competition is the lens inequality. Can a kit lens or a non-L, in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing (and after seeing your stuff, remembering I'm rather new here and haven't seen it before, I'm concluding you do know what you are doing) really beat out an L? It would go so far in these "what lens should I buy" recommendations, IMO.

To beat an L ? That's a tough concept which has some shaky underpinnings.
One needs to understand first and foremost what an L stands for. Then, one needs to appreciate that there are many L's......just about the only thing common to all of them is a red ring.....otherwise, they are all different.
Sure like heck the L lenses are not photography magic wands, we know as much, right ?

In the end, experience and application counts for a lot. Tool quality helps but seldom decisively so.
