This is a destination for many travelers to the moosehead lake reigon, especially X-Air Force folks...There was a crash here in the middle of the winter one night in the early 60's...A SAC plane with hot nukes aboard during the cold war...7 died and 2 parachuted to safety ,one parachute did not open but the guy bounced off branches and into deep snow and survived,,,Almost all the wreckage was left and it is now a bit of a shrine...very touching place to visit..and a bit spooky,, 6 miles in from the road...........a beautiful trip in and may the boys that died find peace.. The second shot is included to give some perspective to the first....CC and comments welcome...

Very interesting article..only slightly wrong...it was armed..I know the guy who was in charge of the security patrol who went in and secured the bombs before they even went in for the crew...

Thanks DV2004....the view from the side of elephant is unbelievable....not a bad place to spend eternity...I did not get any good shots of the view as the sun was low in that direction...next time!
