Well, Scottie, the first is spectacular, and the second is good, too. You must be getting good coaching these days.

Beautiful shots Scottie. I like the composition better in the second though it does seem to lack contrast or something. I'm sure it's like you said, down to the weather. Very good job regardless.

Nice one Scott, Aye it'll get cold at night now, I love the Rannoch Area, If you get the chance be sure to visit the Rannoch station area and take the 10 minute walk down to Loch Laidon :)

Looking forward to you putting down your can of beer for a second or two and taking some shots for us

That's pretty much where i'm headed, as i figured there would be parking at the station. We're staying at Loch Rannoch (hopefully, i haven't phoned to check if they're still open this time of year lol).

My camera will probably be on a tri-pod most of the time, so no need to put the beer down at all!! :D

#2 looks like it could be tweaked a little more, but I still prefer it over the 1st one. The rocks do a good job of leading the eye into the main subject in the background. Very nice image, Scottie. :-)

Like HrcRacing and JT, I actually preferred the second but felt it needed some extra work.

I hope you don't mind me putting up this modified version - I tweaked the Levels, Curves and Blues in Hue/Saturation - mainly to improve contrast and make that lovely snow on the mountain shine out. Then I made a tighter crop to make the rocks lead to the mountain even more. Of course I could be talking through my a**e and you may hate what I have done. If you do just say so! ;)

EDIT - now I see it online the resizing after the crop has made it pretty fuzzy - sorry!

No Peach, I can handle this type of weather during the day, as long as the sky has some defenition I'll happily shoot away, my aim last night was to catch the last light of the sky for some nice costal shots, 100% cloud cover put and end to that.

Glen Lochay is about 1 1/2 hours drive from where I live, That's the thing about Bonnie Scotland, there's beauty almost on your front door :)

Thanks Stan To be honest, other than the great advice and ideas I get on this very forum I'd consider myself self taught, however I'll definately be bombarding Dimitri with 101 questions when we visit Skye next year

Thanks Robert The 2nd shot does look a little flat but I'm quite happy to leave it that way, you can't PP mother nature too much

Scott, feel free to PM me with any questions that you might have with regards to the whole area, and if your considerring consuming copious amounts of Ale then may I suggest leaving your camera on Autofocus

Of course I don't mind your Edit Mike, hell I tried giving the shot more punch too before I gave up and accepted what I had

The shot was taken last Feb, my only possible answer to why it came out dull was possibly that I had the NDG pushed down too far.

EDIT - now I see it online the resizing after the crop has made it pretty fuzzy - sorry!

 Yes It has ;)

They are both lovely captures, Scottie. Typical Scottish weather, apart from the fact that there is a patch of blue in both skies! I love the stormy skies we get up here - just as well really ;)

But yeah, I don't mix photography with alcohol, especially clamberring around hills, Lochs and rivers.
