I dunno, Jay, I personally liked your Mongoose Panning Shots 
This is a pretty hefty crop - but slugging this lens around at the speeds needed to get these chaps...well...it was fun.

You're right, I've taken some people and pet shots that came out very well with the 500. The compression adds interesting backgrounds. How funny would it be to show up at a wedding with the big boy.
