QUOTED IMAGE
1DMkIV + 500mm + 1.4X TC .. 1/125 @ f/16 ISO 100

shots like this are the reason I want a 1D series camera body with a long lens for airshows. hmmmm perhaps used 1D Mark II and a 70-200 2.8 with a TC on it for relatively local airshows

Body:50D gripped Magic Lantern'd
Lenses:50mm 1.8,40mm 2.8,28-105 USM II,70-210 F4, 1962 Asahi Pentax Super Takumar 55mm 1.8
Flash: Canon 430 EX
The camera is just a tool - it is not responsible for the picture.

Jay,

Awesome shot. The only way I'd get a shot like that would be to take a photo of your photograph. ;)

An Egret with a suntan! I like the Cattle Egrets better, they don't seem to be as shy as the Snowy's.
Keep em flyin' Jay.

The last few months I've been considering upgrading my 400mm f/5.6 for the 500mm f/4 MK I. I'm going to pull the trigger when I see one in the range of $5000-$5500, but I have one question. Does anyone know for how much longer Canon will continue to repair this lens? This lens would not be an insignificant purchase for a strictly amateur bird photographer.

There are so many copies of the 500 f/4L IS out there that I highly doubt Canon would cease servicing them anytime soon.

Bear in mind that for every one sold to a single user, there were probably 10-20 sold to agencies and publications.

I seem to see the opposite but we don't get many Cattle Egrets around here so I don't have much experience with them.

You just missed one on the Sell forum here. Went for $5k, I think.

6-10 years figuring that then it will be 20-25 years old. Buy one, send it to Canon for a clean and re-grease then don't worry about it.
