Dave Thanks for your reasoning. I asked as I will be looking at getting a fast prime useful for "people" pictures (candids, portrait etc) in the near future. Was thinking of the 50 but might have to try out the 85 and see how that compares and suits my needs.

Andrea Well hope you manage to hold out OK. Only 3 more days then you can spend all that wonderful money you've been saving and enjoy yourself!!!

I wish all you new 30D owners would stop posting new threads. This is the 3rd one in page one already and I'm only half way down the list.

Mine won't be here til next Wednesday and I just won't feel right posting about MY new 30D if you guys clog up the forum with all yours.

It's on my list for sure, but tell me how you attach it. Isn't there something about taking off the battery cover door? Think I read that briefly somewhere.

That's great news Dave. I got my 30D about two months ago (I couldn't wait for the rebates). Unfortunately, though, I just sent it to Canon to find out why I'm getting the dreaded Err99 message and why it's continually overexposing.

I'm now cameraless and feel as though a good friend has died. :o(

I'm hopeful that it'll come back in perfect working condition.

Sorry but I think the ducks found out about the new camera and are currently in hiding.

Have to say, I am gonna wait for the grip. To be honest, I have been used to an EOS 5 35mm SLR which feels similar and not sure if I will really need the grip. Time will tell.

Will post some pics very soon.:D

If it's like my 300D, you will have to remove the battery door, and there will be a spot to hold it on the grip... Then you just put the grip on and crank it down.

Congrats on the new toys!

Outstanding :) My order for the 30D goes in on Monday to B+H...I waited for the rebate. Going to mount my 24-70 EF L on it first and take it for a spin

Woah Jim, nice collection of Lenses you have there. Looks like you will have some fun with the 30D when you get it!!! I did think about the 24-70 but it's about £150 more expensive in UK and felt the extra reach, along with IS, would compensate for not having the f/2.8. Am getting the good ol' Nifty as well for any close fast portrait work. Think it should be good on a 1.6x crop.

Have to say though, been playing about indoors (bad weather and time sharing New Toys stopping outdoors) and the feel of the combination is superb. Nice balance. Even with the 580EX on top it doesn't feel unstable.

Will hopefully get out over the weekend and get some duck pics, if the little gits stop hiding from me. :D
