Thank you all.

Luant16 I have to say that I am enjoying just messing about using the lense. Hope to get out tomorrow and get some proper pics going. I have the old faithful 50 1.8 on order, expecting it on Monday along with a Lowepro Toploader to go wandering with. Also have Crumpler but bit big for wandering around the city.

kwsanders Yes it has been a good month and now I have all my toys ESP the 30D I can enjoy the following month(s) just as much, if not more. :D

I would love to get the 30D. I ran into some situations this weekend where I just could not get the results that I wanted with a large aperture without blowing out the photo. The 1/4000 shutter speed on the XT is just too slow sometimes. :)

kwsanders - Well you certianly have a lot of nice lenses that would go well on the 30D. Have to say that I love the feel of it. Want to get outside and use it but I've either been busy or weather has been bad. Have to say, curious what situations you were in needing faster than 1/4000!!!? Don't think I have ever taken a pic faster than 1/1000

You not able to take advantage of the rebates at the moment? Seems a good time to be buying over there. :D

I was taking a photo early in the morning of a flower that was covered in direct sunlight. I was shooting in manual mode. I guess I should have switched over to P to see what the camera would have selected, but then I would not have been wide open for the blurred background. Oh well... I continue to learn. :)

As for the rebates, I could take advantage of them, but if I did that, I would probably have to look for a new place to live. My wife does not want me to purchase anymore camera equipment right now.

I just got my 30D about a month ago and I understand your excitement. I love it! I'm drooling over your lens though. I'd give my eye teeth for that one.

Woah Jim, nice collection of Lenses you have there. Looks like you will have some fun with the 30D when you get it!!!

Dave,

Thanks...I have spent the last two years building my collection. After the 30D arrives I am giving one on my dRebels, the kit lens, and my 28-105MM lens to my daughter.

I photograph my grandkids, landscapes, portraits, and an occasional wedding.

I ordered my 30D on Sunday and hope to have it by this weekend. I can't wait to try it out :)

Jim -- I keep the Leica D-Lux 7 in the Glove Box just in case!
7D, G5X, 10-22MM EF-S, 17-55MM f/2.8 EF-S IS, 24-105MM f/4 EF L, Leica D-Lux 7

kwsanders - Well I guess that sort of scenario could call for a fast shutter speed. :) I have to admit I occassionally check out P to see what the camera says and then tweak where necessary. Am waiting on Bryan Petersons "Understanding Exposure" book to assist in my development.
Best not fall out with the missus or you could end up divorced and losing half your stuff!!! :(

Shoot4Fun - Thanks, is a gorgeous camera. The lens does appear to be a work of art on it's own!!! Just waiting for that opportunity to get out and make my own works of art.:D

JimAskew - Well you have certainly made some sound choices with your lenses. Unfortunately, like many, money is a big issue with me so might take me a few extra years to build up a nice collection.
My main thing when working with 35mm SLR was landscapes but I am now wanting to try candids/portrait work to get more of a balance of skills. Hence I got the 24-105. Thought the loss of a stop over the 24-70 would be compensated by the IS and also the fact indoors I would be using flash and also the extra reach would be good for candids.
Your daughter will love the dRebel and lenses I am sure and I KNOW you will love the 30D:D

I've never used an SLR before today, so I have a lot of learning to do. However, I lucked into this one:

Hi Andrea. What setup did you get in the end? Good to see the duck!!! I have been dire in getting pics on here. Plan to VERY soon.
Seeing as you haven't ever used a SLR of any kind before then you have started off pretty well. Pics look ok for first goes. Both a little lacking with exposure and composition in second is not great but good spot at seeing the subject. There things will naturally improve with experience and I think you can be proud with your start in the land of DSLR!!! :D
