Well I've been lurking around this forum now for three years!

Some things have changed, some are still the same.

What has changed from back in October 2003:
- Most people hung out in the G Series forum, only the rich or pros hung out in the DSLR forum
- Senior membership was granted at 500 posts (then some bad people hacked the forum and it needed to be upgraded)
- The highest post count was way under 5000, and I think it was still CDS who had it

What is the same?
- Still a great forum with lots of people prepared to share advice and experience :D

EDIT one more thing the same, people keep starting the same poll over and over ;)

I am about the same time here and yes it really has changed. Fun to watch the changes though, don't you think?

it is interesting to see the changes. I remember when the Peka change the verson and it seemed like everything had changed. now I can't even remember what the old one looked like. for me this is the longest place I have ever hang out on the net.

pete it's strange I don't remember you being around in 03 or 04. But it's not like I would have been in the G forum. By Dec I had my 10D :)

I got my G3 at the end of their life, the G5 had been around for a number of months, so hung around in the G forum for at least a year!

Just go to the Wayback Machine (external link) to see how it's changed over the years. Here's the archives for POTN, going back to 2001: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://photography-on-the.net/ (external link) (Seems odd there are none for 2006, though.)

I started in 2003, too, except a little earlier. I also started by hanging out in the G-series forum although I did lurk in the EOS DSLR forum, too, that is, until i got a 10D from the first batch my local store ever got (someone ordered it but chickened out at the last minue....lucky for me). :)

You don't remember how the original POTN looked? Me, I can never forget that look. It was what caught my eyes the first time and kept me coming back after visiting a few other forums. The look was so refreshing and the posts were so easy to read, unlike the other forums. And, of course, there was (and still is) a lot of factful sustance in the contents of the majority of the posts and the members were such nice people. :)

And then there was this Canadian dude with a 3-legged donkey named Gitzo who (the dude, not the donkey :) ) had a habit of taking pictures of ducks, especially their rear end (or that's what the ducks presented to him every time he showed up with a camera). Then the real fun started.

Yup! me too, August 2003. I think the biggest change is how huge the membership has gotten and how fast you can end up on page 3 after posting.

I was looking at one of the archives of the site from 2004 on that Wayback Machine. Back then there was only one "share" forum, and the first page went back four days. Yep. It's a bit different than today...

There was only one forum for EOS cameras, lenses and lighting too, we seem to be rapidly heading towards splitting up the EOS somehow to avoid only having posts from the last 5 seconds on the front page

Well that was a trip down memory lane I don't wont to take again.

I remeber back in the day the biggest thing was weather or not the canon 10d had a back focusing issue. it seemed like every 2nd post was about that. I never did figure out if it was a real issue with the camera. Mine I have never had a problem with it
