I tried to follow that...then got lost. :-) Well, I'm pretty sure making a layer mask and "painting" out the areas you want gone will achieve the same effect (after you've created another layer with the "framed" image).

JT - please post the steps that you use for your version, I'd be happy to know if there is a less complicated way of doing it!! Here are two more that I did earlier in the week:

This gives the photo a really WOW look! Can you post the original to see what it looked like before all your work? Which adobe photoshop do you own? I wondered if this could be done with one of the Photoshop elements. All I currently have is Elements 2 and Microsoft Digital Imaging. I am ready for an upgrade and Elements 5 just came out.

I hope you can see these OK, I uploaded tham like this to save time and space, but these are the originals - the shell and flower are unedited and the two boats are old pictures I took a year or so ago - one of them I had added some effects to try and make it look like film, so it looks a tad soft.

Elisabeth-Ann--those are just fantastic. I really like the effect, and as someone who has learned photoshop by the "seat of the pants" method, I really appreciate the talent and time it took to do that. I am continually impressed with the artistic creativity of folks here at POTN. Thanks for sharing.

Inspired ...... I did not do this quite the same way. I took this picture a while ago before I had my 350D. I like the view point and the reflections but I think I will make time to go back and try it again. Neil

Well, I'm not a very good teacher and I've never actually attempted to create an image like this. But, I HAVE done a lot of layer masking, so to me it makes sense to create different layers and layer masks and to use the paint brush to erase selected areas. I'm sure someone with a little better grasp of the terminology of Photoshop could write a better tutorial than me. I'm guessing the way I'm implying is much less complicated than how you've done it, but it's probably more complicated for me to explain it. Does that make sense?

Thanks for posting the originals! It couldn't have been an easy task to do that effect to them.
