Looking to see if anyone has experienced anything like this.

My S45 has started to randomly power off and then back on. I know that my batteries are failing and have new ones on order but thought that I would post the symptoms in case anyone has had the same symptoms and managed to track down what is causing it if not the battery.

The batteries (Canon) are to the point that they have been recharged too often and can only keep a charge for a short time.:cry:

The camera functions fine in all respects except that it will power off (lens retracts and camera powers down completely) with the cover open at random intervals. It does not seem to be any particular combination of button push/orientation/pressure on cover.:confused::confused:

The pictures it takes are still there after power off and it comes back on within a couple of seconds of powering down.

I will keep you posted on what happens when I get new batteries to put in. Am waiting for my new ones to arrive from sterlingtek.

tks for any replies.

My son is here and his battery from his canon Digital Video camera is the same as the S45, so we made sure that it was charged up and tried it in the S45.

Same problems. It seems that this is more prevelant just after you open the slide cover to turn on the camera. The camera will power up, the LCD will initialize and all the power up information is displayed then the camera will power off and immediately power up again. It will do this sometimes a couple of times then settle down with random turn offs as the camera is on. Whatever is happening seems to be more prevelant at power up than after the camera has been on for a couple of minutes.

I guess that it is time for it to head for the repair depot. :>(

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a similar problem.

thanks,

John
