Excellent captures. Do you attribute these wing shots to the 1Dmk2, or to your own skill and practice?

I do practice these shots, but with my older camera, it seems there is no hope whatever of focusing on them.

Luck it is then. The day I get 2 shots like this, I'll stop on the way home and buy a couple Lotto tickets too, you know, just to test it. ;)

Thank you Glenn, Blue, Mitch and Superscott.
Here is a couple of more shots like that. I am almost sure I used the 200 f/2.8 for the first two shots.

Wayne old son, I have dedicated my best seagull flight shots to you this morning ! The thread is called "Flights for Liv2Trip" and it's on page 3 or 4 by now.

I have two perfect spots to practice shots like this.

Well, I will next spring. It snowed today, so I think they are all gone south. :)

Yup, long gone.
So are the dragonflies.
Well, there are always passerines and similar large birds left with an easy flight pattern/trajectory.....we can keep practicing on those.

You shall see, once you get the flying passerines under your belt, you'll be almost embarassed to shoot larger birds in flight....like seagulls and ducks.....like goin' duck hunting with an AK47.

You must have feline reflexes to get these excellent captures, well done.

Thank you Paul and Reyno, but at my age the only feline trait I've got left is the ability to snooze.
Those are really stunt swallows. Since PIPers do not seem to have/do any, I have to train my own starting with fledglings like this one. Here we are just practicing a simulated flight test.;)
