Hi...I guess to be honest, I don't think the picture is technically that good. IMHO, there's nothing to it, except a birds head, that looks pasted into a corner of a tree...I mean, there's no hint of a body. The picture is clearly out of focus, the paving doesn't match up from left to right (close to where the big black band is), and the lack of color doesn't help.

Would you provide some 'detail' as to what you were trying to achieve here? Maybe my perception is WAY off...so, a description might help?

You're right - this picture doesn't have the technical merits of, say, a tack sharp butterfly picture (gee, wouldn't that be nice...?). I'm sorry that the picture is out of focus and lacks color...not much I'm going to be able to do about that either I'm afraid, so I can't please you there.

The body of the bird is attached to his/her neck - you'll just have to trust me on that. As for the pavement matching, the pasting of the head, etc. - you're just getting paranoid in this age of Photoshopping (maybe a little guilt for having done that yourself, eh?) - but this image captured as seen, on film, with no manipulation as you brazenly suggest.

As for 'detail' or a description that may help your perception - it is what it is. I'm sorry you don't like it much but I do and that's why I posted it.

Cheers,
Tuna

Nah, I hardly ever 'photochop' my pictures, so no, I am not 'paranoid in this age of Photoshopping' and feel no 'guilt for having done that' myself. But, as you said, it is what it is...and that's that. Lastly, I am not looking to be 'pleased' rather, I was at least 'acknowledging' your picture...so, maybe next time, I will stay away from such quality.

Good luck.

You sound upset/angry, kind of the way your first post sounded. I hope I didn't cause that.

Or were you startled when you saw the bird? I know I used to get upset when startled like that - but that was when I was a child.

Hey Tuna. I've always loved your work. It's rarely what most people nowadays would consider "quality", but that is what I like about it. The capture of things as odd as this (odd to me anyways) is what makes your work interesting. I for one, grow tired of the usual techincally perfect photograph. I've considered going back to film as well, and your work has contributed to that a great deal.

or perhaps my flu and the medications I am taking are getting the best of me. ;)

Either way, keep it up as you have been. I always enjoy viewing your work.

This one made me laugh Tuna.
I was initially drawn to the "8 ft. 2.4 m" portion as the contrast is high there, mulling over the maths converstion in my mind. Then as my eyes moved across the frame and reached the bird's head, I had to chuckle. The way he is sticking his head into the frame like that is quite comical and a dramatic contrast to the maths mentality I was in on the left side of the frame. I like it a lot - probably because I am quite fond of contrasts, both visual and mental. ;)

Hardly upset/angry by words on the internet. And not startled either. Oh well. Your perception is what it is...and that is OK. Good luck with that.

I like that the bird head seems somewhat disembodied. It makes me stop and think. And like Athena said, the head is a funny surprise when you move your eyes away from the high contrast numbers. It seems out of place, but in a good way.

I don't have as much time to visit the forum as I used to, and even less time to post. (A new baby keeps me busy.) But every time I check to see what's new, I'm happy to see posts by several of my favorite contributors. Tuna is definitely on that short list of posters that I will be sure to check out when I'm here. Since this is a B&W and Experimental section, I expect things to be... well... not your standard, cookie-cutter images from a greeting card. Not that such a picture is bad, but that's not what I want to see in the experimental section of this forum. If I have to think about the image for a minute or two, and even create my own story for what might be going on or what the photographer was trying to achieve, that's fine with me.

"Your perception is what it is...and that is OK. Good luck with that." Good luck with that? Wow, pretty harsh. Maybe inthedeck should search this forum for other photos posted by Tuna before implying that his perception isn't going to yield any good photos. Seriously, inthedeck, I looked at yours and was reminded of the old saying: "if you live in a glass house, don't throw stones."

Anyway, another picture well worth the time it took to laugh at that bird. :)
Film?? Good luck with that! ;)

Hey, thanks for taking the time to view some of my stuff...even though you sound like you didn't enjoy it.

Take care.

Public spaces aren't as private as they used to be. Then again, nothing's like it used to be, which may or may not be good... but I digress. And when you feel you're all by yourself, out of the corner of your eye, something moves. And you're reminded that you're not by yourself. And then you whirl around and whatever moved is hidden behind an impossibly thin pole.. so it couldn't have been there and ... But I digress...

I have know women who have spent years escaping the stork. Hell, I know men who've spent longer. And yet, even when you're alone in a public space... there's that specter of a stalking stork. Although that is an entirely new metaphor from my first paragraph.. I think I digress... again.

Which is what this wonderful moment you've captured is doing to me as my mind hunts for the pattern which defines and explains it. Which is one of the thing art and artists do. But I digress....

Thanks for sharing.

Ted
