It is a bit tight at the right side, and the shadow at the top is a bit bothersome. I do like the sandy environment here. A bit hot in the whites also, but this is a hard bird to expose for perfectly anyhow, especially with the sidelighting you gave yourself for this shot. Keep posting!! Daniel Cadieux

I'd recommend underexposing and checking your histogram to make sure the bird isn't too hot. You can always adjust it later so the BG doesn't look too dark. Personally with gulls I try to get them in a smoother sandy environment. I don't like signs of human disturbance. Gulls are far too often overlooked as just being 'junk' birds not worthy of shooting unless 'nothing else' is around. But they are quite pretty and impressive in their own right. Keep shooting, you have LOTS of good birds (including gulls!) in your area. RESPECTING NATURE while photographing it...

Oct 12, 2006 02:16 | #6 Thank you all for ur vauable suggestions and I really appreciate you people taking out time to review the pic. As I have mentioned earlier that I am a newbie to bird photography ... i think I should say to photography as a whole. I just got my 1st serious camera i.e. S3 and have been going thru the manuals but I think I have a lot to learn from you guys rather than the manual. Moreover I would be going to BOLSA CHICA Ecologoical Reserve in CA so hope to post more shots soon. Sheri Chander
