i guess most people buy the macro when considering a 100mm prime and overlook this gem. i really like this lens as it sits between the 85 and the 135and can be used for the purpose of both.

All speculation but here's my thoughts.

1) The 135 is so popular because it's an "L" and from what I have seen it is one spectacular lens. Probably my next purchase.

2) The 85 1.8 is popular because the 85 1.2 L gets so much press. People realize that they can't afford it and so go for the cheaper version.

3) 85 1.8 is a good focal length for a cropped sensor. It is an equivalent of 135 35 mm.
